ΕVENT ABSTRACT

This session of the TRANSPARENT WINDOWS creative workshop series will present some of the environmental problematics raised in a selection of ecopoems. The genre of ecopoetry rose in the late 20th century and is gaining wide critical acclaim due to the unique ways it tackles some of the ecological crises that the world is currently faced with. The subject matter of ecopoetry reconsiders humanity’s connections with the physical world by focusing on a variety of political and environmental issues, including animal and/or human rights, pollution, climate change, the (non)ethics of consumerism and social reconciliation. Ecopoetry recasts our perceptions of nature and highlights the environment as a powerful agency for the rise of eco-awareness. In this session of the TRANSPARENT WINDOWS creative workshop, participants will be invited to work with certain environmental texts and create their own as well as view certain ecofilms as alternative responses to contemporary environmental challenges.
