ΕVENT ABSTRACT
I am not a poet, but a poem. A poem that is being written, even if it looks like a subject. (Lacan, 1981)
Every endeavor of creation, inscription, writing begins with an “I.” Or does it? What elements constitute the “I” that facilitate or obstruct learning? How might we as teachers or writers open up ourselves to the new, new ways of “being” and “learning”?
In this workshop, my aim is to show you the immense potential of using a psychoanalytic perspective to analyze how someone writes and how we might use this insight into our teaching. The crux of my research has produced and explored a mode of reflexivity, a specific mode of thinking about how we use language, which might facilitate, rather than obstruct learning.
The first part of the workshop, after a small introduction of how this research began and some basic theory, will include a collective creative writing exercise followed by a Lacanian psychoanalytic interview with volunteer students attending the workshop. The second part of the workshop will initiate a “live-analysis” of the data produced during the first part through the interview and the writing. We will finish with a discussion on how this mode of thinking about one’s writer identity might constitute a useful mode of reflecting about your teaching or writing practice; what I have named an enigmatic pedagogy allowing for the “new” to emerge. If you are intrigued by the Other side of learning, writing, self and teaching this is not a workshop you would want to miss.
