Περιγραφή

Samuel Beckett is a huge figure in twentieth-century drama, experimenting widely with theatre experience as a whole. Our focus will be on his work with dramatic language - the ways his plays introduce a new dramatic/performance idiom in which the text assumes more functions besides its traditional task of storytelling, while new channels of “meaning making” are activated. The purpose of this course is twofold: to introduce students to the intricacies of Beckett’s writing, as well as to shed light on how his experimentation in the theatre has been reflected / echoed / resisted and carried further in plays of the post-Beckettian period. A collection of exemplary dramatic texts will provide the necessary material for analysis and discussion in class.
