Ghona Zhoshi “the big Zhoshi”

Ghona Zhoshi “the big Zhoshi”

May 16

The singing and dancing start at dawn and finish in the evening: Spiral dancing of women and little girls with the innermost circle squeezing the drummers. The loud drum beat and their singing are their only music. Then they all rush to the other side of the dancing place, shaking walnut leaves and singing until they reach the Batrik dancing shed. More wild dancing: Dancing the sha'gha'yak dance by forming a long line pulling one another by holding a ribbon, the shuman, and screaming ʊi ʊə ʊə. Men dancing wildly with fake axes. They all get intoxicated with dancing by the loud beat of the drums.
