CHEL'IK SAMBIEK/GOS'NIK COPA

CHEL'IK SAMBIEK/GOS'NIK COPA

CHEL'IK SAMBIEK/GOS'NIK COPA (19 December). The morning a child is dressed the Kalasha uniform and enters the Kalasha community.

Chel'ik sambiek is the ceremony in which a 4-7 year-old child will be dressed the Kalasha costume for the first time by the maternal uncles. It takes place only at Cawmos or Zhoshi festivals. It cannot be celebrated at Ucaw. Regarding the costumes, the girl will be dressed the traditional clothes a Kalasha woman wears: a long black embroidered dress, the piran, a long woven belt, the pati, and the kupas, a headdress decorated with coweri shells, and later on the shushut, a decorated headband with a tail. The boy will wear the kamiz, a long white shirt, the chel'ik, a white woven belt, and the osainyi, a white turban. After two years he will wear the bhut ‘shalvar’ and the kas'ong ‘woolen hat’. After the child is dressed the Kalasha costume and the presents are given to the godfathers (i.e. large pots and white turbans) who also bring gifts such as goats, sheep or even a cow, a big entertainment starts with eating and drinking wine as well as singing, clapping and dancing.

In Burmburet valley, Brun village, a chel'ik sambiek of a little boy is taking place. All kinds of bread have already been made from the previous night. As many as 350 t'at'ori will be distributed to all villagers.

Inside Jes't'ak Han temple a fire has been made in the middle. There is a lot of singing, clapping and dancing. Sambiala children from other houses are also dancing inside the temple.
