This course sets to explore some central themes and concepts that define 20th century American literature, history and culture. A few of the topics to be studied include: land, gender, urbanism, violence, race, politics, commodity culture and so on. In particular, students: • Will practice reading closely literary texts, films, speeches, newspaper clippings • Will gain knowledge of certain key historical, social and political events that influenced American literary production • Will re-evaluate and re-assess certain important notions as mentioned above.
