Welcome to the website of the School of English at the Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki. Here you will find information about the
School’s history and administration, its departments and laboratories,
its academic and administrative staff as well as its research fields.
The undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the School of English
provide an interdisciplinary academic education covering a wide range of
topics and incorporating innovative perspectives on the study of
linguistics, literature, drama, visual culture, translation, cultural
and critical theory. Our School of English has numerous exchange
programs with prestigious universities across Europe, Asia and the
United States. Our graduates are active in diverse fields and highly
sought after in many areas, including education, translation, tourism,
media, the creative industries, the public, private, and third sector.
Initially founded as a University Institute of Foreign Languages in 1951-52, it
acquired its present status as School of English in 1983. It is one of the
currently eight
schools which constitute the Faculty of Philosophy, founded in 1925 as one of
the first four faculties of the University of Thessaloniki, known for its high
academic standards.
