G-LSUD4 ThApTIS 422 Children’s Literature in Translation

G-LSUD4 ThApTIS 422 Children’s Literature in Translation

Elective | Teaching hours: 3 | Credits: 3 | ECTS: 6

Description

What is children’s and young adult literature (CYAL)? Why is it worth reading children’s books? How do words and images work together in them? How is the translation of CYAL books different from the translation of other texts? How do we translate CYAL texts? This course provides answers to the above questions, offering an introduction to the major genres, themes, and motifs in children’s books, as well as a critical approach to the particularities of their translation. Its goal is to empower the students with the knowledge and skills that can be directly applied to translating texts of children’s and young adult literature. Students will actively engage in hands-on translation practice on a variety of texts, ranging from picture books and classic children’s books to young adult fiction and comics.
