Angeliki Athanasiadou is Professor, Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, School of English, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her teaching and research interests focus on the framework of Cognitive Linguistics, a usage-based model of language which recognizes the role of human experience in shaping language structure. Her main research interests are in the study of:
Grammar and Cognition
Figurative language, such as metaphor, metonymy, irony
The language of emotions
Cultural linguistics
She has served as Chair and Deputy Chair, School of English (2004 – 2011), and currently serves as co-editor of a book series on figurative language (Figurative Thought and Language, J. Benjamins Book Series). She is also a partner in international research projects and a member of various editorial boards and board of referees.
