Description

This course is a comprehensive introduction to visual culture that explores the ways we use and understand images. It looks at painting, photography, film, television, musical video clips, and new media (e.g. the World Wide Web, You Tube, etc.). Students will be introduced to the diverse range of approaches to visual analysis that have emerged in the last few decades. As we cover the current theoretical debates concerning visual culture, we will also incorporate them by looking at numerous examples of image practices. Course textbook and outline / list of readings are available. Assessment: Final exam.
